The Project
Jet was initially called to the North Portal in Great Missenden to mill these imperfections. Following a successful first operation, Jet was invited to continue works at the South Portal in Maple Cross. This demonstrating confidence in our capability and delivery.
The Approach
Due to the confined nature of the tunnel, traditional transport methods were not viable. The planers used on the project had to track in under their own power, with the furthest point being approximately 16km inside the tunnel.
To meet strict safety standards, Jet’s machines were fitted with fire suppression systems, installed on-site over two days to mitigate risks of sparks or flames in the enclosed environment. Jet worked closely with Health and Safety and onsite advisors to meet exacting requirements.
The Results
The project showcased Jet’s ability to adapt to complex and constrained environments, delivering high-precision milling under challenging physical and logistical conditions.
The equipment deployed included a Tracked 1m planer with fine milling drum and a 350mm planer with fine milling drum, with custom fire suppression systems installed on both machines
Jet’s flexibility, technical expertise, and commitment to safety were key to the success of this unique infrastructure project.
